3 top tips to throw a DIY party

Yesterday I posted an interview with two enterprising friends Raluca and Carmen about their handmade events organising business Ocean Evenimente. Today I am bringing you three of their top tips and tutorials which you can use to organise your very own DIY party or event, including handmade decorations, prizes and gift ideas. For loads more ever-so-simple tutorials and inspiring pictures, check out their Ocean Handmade blog.

We begin this with a simple tutorial that can be achieved by everyone, from adults to children. What I like about this tutorial is that it requires few materials and can be finished in a short time.
  • colored paper
  • cutter
  • stapler
For the garland I used coloured and patterned paper cut it into 2cm strips. Fold the strip in half and bend the ends round to form a heart shape. Staple the ends to hold them in place. Then fold the next strip (repeating as above) but staple it to the bottom point of the previous heart.
And so continue folding and stapling until you get garland of hearts.

Next, a simple tutorial that can be used for prizes or gifts at your handmade event.
  • paper
  • colored dots
  • glue
  • cutter
  • good mood 🙂
After you have gathered the materials, start with an accordion fold.
Glue the ends together and add dots on both sides of the rosette. Of course, you can customize with a short text or numbers.

Lastly we present a really easy, useful and versatile tutorial, all packed into a simple “box”.
  • cardboard
  • pencil
  • decorative scissors
  • decorative tape ( Washi Tape )
  • paperclips

Start by drawing a circle on the board – the size of the circle depends on how big a box you need.
After you cut the circle, draw a square in the center. This square will be the box. Cut and bend the edges of the circle and use paperclips to hold the folds together so it forms a box.
Once you have completed this part we get to decorate the box with tape or glue on different cutouts.
Fill the box with cherries or…whatever you like. Bon appetite!
